Oxford English Dictionary Download

The Oxford English Dictionary is the first historical thesaurus to include almost the entire vocabulary of English. The Oxford University Press spent almost 40 years in making if this dictionary. It allows users to find words connected in meaning throughout the history of the language. The first edition was published in 1928 and fully-bound printed second edition was published in 1989. This largest word list resource in the world covers more than 920,000 words and meanings from Old English to the present day. The editors of the dictionary working hard for the publication of the third edition and as of 2008 they have completed one fourth of the word list.

The Oxford English Dictionary also published as user friendly software. The software has Advanced Search functionality which explores its users the vast wealth of information. Boolean operators, case-sensitive searching, exact character searching, restricting searches to the previous search results, searching in pronunciations are different searching techniques used in the application to enable the complex searching option. The high quality dictionary database use the Automatic Lookup feature which enables the fast access of the words from any version of Microsoft Office ® starting from Ms® 97 to 2007 and also several windows applications can utilize the dictionary database. This Oxford English Dictionary is available is single-user PC version only. Network compatibility version and MAC supporting version is not available till date. The minimum system requirements to run the application is 200MHZ Pentium-class processor with 64 MB RAM and 32 speeds CD ROM drive. The supporting operating systems are Windows 92SE, NT4, 2000, Me, XP or Vista. 1.1 GB hard disk space required to run the software directly from CD ROM and 1.7 GB to install the Dictionary to the hard disk. Minimum display settings should be on or above SVGA monitor set to 800 x 600 pixels with 16-bit settings.
